New look to WLM is weird. Can't find the tabs anymore though. They suck for the most part but it's useful for me to be able to see who on my friends list is on Xbox Live. Anyone getting tabs to appear or not?

I failed installing the 134 Mb wlsetup-all.exe on my windows server 2008 workstation while the previous wave1's wlm did.

what's new?

1. Try installing the OffLine pack posted by "pplay"
2. Choose Install/Upgrade Windows Live Messenger
3. Look at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live\cache\
4. In here you'll see a lot of folders with 15 (+/-) digits
5. Look for "Messenger.msi" into them
6. If you want the Segoe Fonts, look for "SegoeFont.msi" into the same folders.
7. copy/paste the MSI installer to other directory
8. That's all, you've the Silent MSI Installer

9. Uninstall the Windows Live Suite from Control Panel.
10. Install from the Messenger.msi
11. That's all, you've got The new WLM9 Beta 3 Installed.

And yes also inhide hiden folders.

12. Look for "Contacts.msi" on the "Windows Live\cache" folders that I told you, and copy/paste to other directory.
13. If you have the "ERROR 8000FFFF", try installing the Concats.msi

I think that the names of the MSI installer must be the same as XP.

Remember, if you've the "ERROR 8000FFFF", install the "Contacts.msi" too.

Sorry, if you aren't realized, the directory isn't "Windows Live\cache"; actually is "Windows Live\.cache" (look the "dot")

I'm QUITE BLIND, but I tried to help as fast as I could.

Before (on previous releases of Windows Live Suite) we needed only the "Messenger.msi", but now I saw that the "ERROR 8000FFFF" appears if you don't install "Contacts.msi" and "Messenger.msi" twice


The "Messenger.msi" will install the program on
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger

...and the "Contacts.msi" will install the "information contacts updater for WLM" on
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Contacts

Here's a way to get WLM installed on Windows Server 2008:
Firstly, install wlm on windows xp system;
Secondly, copy the following folder (double quoted ones) to the corresponding directory in Windows Server 2008 (create a C:\Program Files\Windows Live\ folder):
C:\Common Files\"Windows Live";
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\"Installer";
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\"Contacts"
Thirdly, run warp.exe in \Contacts and choose install or remove, enjoy!

guys all u have to do to make this install on a server os is simple. download resource hacker or xn resource editor then download the full install of msn beta open the exe with one of these editors, go to the the config folder then config 0. somewhere in the xml u will see a line where is says os product type "workstation" change it to server and save it. its as simple as that! u now have a full install without havin to install bits and pieces on a server os. say thanks =)

HI there, all you need to do to be able to install the new windows live messenger is to download the sp3 and you're all set :) ..It works great

I found a bug for the new functions of "Sign in at more than one place". It works trouble-free when the OS of 2 machine is freshly installed. However, when they are cloned -- like machine A is ghost from machine B, the later logon WLM would kick the another out and receive alert from MSN server saying that the WLM doesn't support "sign in at more than one machine". I tired modify the computer name first but it doesn't work. I'm thinking if it's related to SID issue and need to reset it by running sysprep.

Anyone come acorss this problem and has solution, please post and share ...
